James 1:17 - ''Every good and perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of the heavenly lights, who does not change like shifting shadows'' (NIV).

I’ve spent some time asking my boys what they would like for Xmas. I’ve also spent more time searching online and some stores for things I know would interest and benefit them. I thought about the time spent buying those gifts, the plans for Xmas and all. It got me thinking about how well the whole idea of Christmas like every other festive season has been commercialised to the extent that it’s become more of a mere social festive occasion for exchange of gifts and focus has been shifted from the primary reason for the season...Jesus Christ.

I thought about myself as an ordinary parent, doing the best I can to get my children and our loved ones the best possible gifts for Christmas. It makes me appreciate deeply how our heavenly father in His infinite mercies actually did give us His very best, His one and only begotten Son.

John 3:16 - ''For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life.''(NKJV)

How awesome is that? There’s a deep sense of satisfaction in getting my children what they really asked for so how much more the divine grace granted unto us by our heavenly father.

I remember how excited my children feel and the appreciation they have shown over the years when they un-wrap their gifts on Christmas mornings. As you read this, I would love for you to reflect for a few moments the blessings and wonderful things the Lord has done since the beginning of the year. Whether you’re at work, on the bus or the train, at home or wherever... please take some time to thank God and appreciate him for the season you’re in, in your life right now. Thank Him for answered prayers and those yet to be fulfilled.

Indeed we have a living God, who is our Father in heaven, the King of Kings, the Lord of Lords, the I Am that I Am, the Living One, our Redeemer, our ever present help in times of need. He even created us in His own image and gave us his word to live by. Thank you Lord!

As we celebrate this season, let us not get carried away into just socialising; let us remember the reason for this season. Beyond roasted turkey, Santa clause, decorations, various events and parties; there is the God who gave us the perfect gift., His SON.

It’s a season of giving, so give to a good cause your time, your money, your love and of course the good news.
Here’s wishing everyone the most pleasant Christmas in 2013 and a wonderful 2014.

Shalom
