Earlier today, I had an interesting experience speaking with a customer service adviser of an insurance company. After making my enquiries she needed me to give her my mobile number so she could get someone else to call me back with the information I needed. Our conversation went like this:
CS - ‘’Please could you confirm your mobile number?’’
Me: ‘Ok, it’s 0740.
CS – Sorry I wanted your mobile number, that couldn’t be any mobile number
Me: Really, ok how about YOU telling me my mobile number then since you know better than me (lol)
CS – Oh, I’m sorry Ms, please do go ahead, it wasn’t a network prefix I was familiar with.
Me: ‘that’s ok’’ (but really, I was thinking with so many new networks springing up, how can anyone keep up?)
Anyway, you know, this really got me thinking about how people generally assume they know you or your situation more than you do. They are ready to argue with you and tell you your life history. They expect you to be silent and listen while they force their opinion on you on the facts and reality of your OWN life. Seriously? Some already have their opinion of you even though they don't know you. There are those who are gullible enough to listen to whatever information they’re being fed with (usually by the people you know) but too much of a coward to ask you the truth.
There are always two sides to any given story. Evil minds think and reason alike. Not many are gifted with the spirit of discernment or even with the ability to reason objectively. My humble advice is when people are murmuring, don’t waste your time trying to explain or feed on their already compromised minds. But, maintain your peace and stand by the truth even if you have to stand alone. (Emphatically)
Remember, “Those who don't know the value of loyalty can never appreciate the cost of betrayal.”
The Lord has created a beautiful world for us to live in but there are those who have made up their minds to live in complexity. It’s really not rocket science to figure out these types - ’’by their fruits, you WILL know them’’. If you really don’t want to deceive yourself, evaluate the credibility of the ones you are listening to. Proverbs 27:19 (NLT) - As a face is reflected in water, so the heart reflects the real person.
Please read & listen to these, they’re not my words:
Proverbs: 26: 23-26,28 (NLT)
23 Smooth words may hide a wicked heart, just as a pretty glaze covers a clay pot. 24 People may cover their hatred with pleasant words, but they’re deceiving you. 25 They pretend to be kind, but don’t believe them. Their hearts are full of many evils 26 While their hatred may be concealed by trickery, their wrongdoing will be exposed in public.
28 A lying tongue hates its victims and flattering words cause ruin
Consider verse 28, I can't possibly think of any good reason to justify why anyone would tell malicious lies about somebody else other than the fact that their heart must be filled with hatred for the person.
Evaluate the people you associate with constantly and make changes when necessary.
So what next? Don’t get stuck with the wrong crowd because until you step out, you’ll
1. Never discover the amazing things God has in store for you.
2. Never know the ones who really care
3. Never find out who your friendly/familiar enemies are. I think some call them ‘’frienemies’’..lol
Pray consistently for the spirit of discernment and the Lord will surely guide you.
